Zach Trainor, founder of Read & Rip
Everything a reporter, podcast host or event organizer needs in one place: who Zach is, the story, ideas for a piece, photos and how to reach him.
Who he is
Kids learn plays. Nobody teaches them the defense.
Zach Trainor was an All-State quarterback at Walled Lake Western, made the Dream Team and was a Mr. Football candidate, then played quarterback at the D1, D2 and D3 levels.
Three programs taught him the same lesson: the quarterbacks who play are the ones who know what the defense is doing before the snap, and almost nobody teaches young players how to see it.
So he built Read & Rip, a football IQ app that teaches players coverages, fronts and pre-snap reads from the ground up, then has them call the coverage, the blitz and the box count on every snap. Coaches use it to build playbooks, quiz players on their own plays and see who's doing the work.
Today he coaches quarterbacks at Lead Prep Academy and in Brighton, and writes free football IQ articles for players and parents at learn.readandrip.com.
Read & Rip runs in any web browser and on Google Play, with a free version, at readripqb.com.
